Los Angeles Residents to Stage Mock “Oil Slick” at BP-Owned Arco Gas Station to Protest Oil Spill Disaster in Gulf Coast

Citizens say “Clean It Up: Our Gulf Coast, Our Energy” 11:00am, Tuesday, May 11th media event at BP-owned Arco gas station. WHERE:ARCO Helios Gas station at 8770 Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90035 Los Angeles - As the Gulf Coast oil catastrophe quickly grows into one of the largest environmental disasters in United States history, Los Angeles residents will gather at a local BP gas station to show support for Gulf Coast residents who are facing widespread destruction of marine life, beaches, and wetlands, and the loss of vital fishing and tourism industries as a result of the oil disaster. Citizens at the event will protest BP’s reckless behavior and call for an end to offshore drilling and dirty energy. Residents will use black plastic and yellow caution tape to stage a mock oil spill in front of local BP-owned Arco station and show why we need a moratorium on drilling off our coasts. Residents will wave signs in front of a BP station that say “CLEAN IT UP: OUR GULF COAST, OUR ENERGY” “honk for clean energy,” , “no more drilling” and will call on BP to clean up their mess/citizens will carry brooms and mops to show the need to clean up the Gulf Disaster and our Energy Future. Concerned citizens will talk about why the Gulf Coast oil spill catastrophe is a wake-up call to local residents, and why we need to move towards clean energy now. Residents will then ask people near the gas station to sign petitions against offshore drilling.
